VG = A CD/DVD with several small and/or large lite* marks within the play area
FAIR = A CD/DVD with several small and large marks, some possibly deep which may or may not affect play depending on the error correction capabilities of your player
POOR = A CD/DVD with many large and small, lite and deep marks which more than likely will affect play.

Grading of inserts or packaging (if packaging is a digipak or cardboard sleeve):

EXC = Inserts or packaging in like new condition with no tears, bends, or price stickers
EXC- = Inserts or packaging may have a slight bend, tear, cut-out slit or punch-out hole
VG = Inserts or packaging may have a few slight tears, bends or price stickers on them

FAIR = Inserts or packaging may have several tears, bends, creases, heavy stains or discoloration. May also have price stickers or sticker residue on them.
POOR = Inserts or packaging may have all of the elements of FAIR but they may be excessive. They may also have writing on them.

Note: I generally do not grade jewel cases or the surfaces of DVD cases as they can be easily replaced. Jewel cases and DVD cases may have some wear or scratches. If I notice that they have cracks or other major damage, I will list the defects above in the insert condition area.
