Grading of cassette tapes is very difficult as so many factors need to be considered including the quality of the equipment they are being played on. My rating of cassettes is based on a visual assessment.
Rating for cassette shells:
VG = Cassette shell appears to have very little wear and tape might not have been played much.
Good = Cassette Shell has normal wear and has probably been played often
Poor = Cassette Shell shows signs of excessive play
Rating for cassette Inserts:
VG = insert is in very good condition with no tears or stains
Good = inserts may have a slight tear or punch out hole or cut
Poor = inserts has excessive wear, tears or stains
Please keep in mind that cassette tapes are from the analog age and many factors contribute to the sound quality of cassette tapes including the type of equipment the tapes are being played on. It is important to keep your player's heads and rollers clean and demagnetized. Dirty heads and rollers can cause poor quality sound and tapes to become tangled. Also note that analog tapes may have slight drop-outs and background noise or hiss which is normal for analog media.
